Lax Kxeen school

Lax Kxeen (meaning ‘Kaien Island’) Elementary School is located in Prince Rupert, a small city on the North Coast of British Columbia. Lax Kxeen was built in 2000 and was the first school in School District 52 to be given a Ts’msyen name. Lax Kxeen is a K-5 school with a culturally diverse population.

Mission / Belief

Lax Kxeen Elementary School is a community of life-long learners that challenges students to do their personal best, following our school beliefs Lax Kxeen ROCKS ( Respect, Ownership, Community, Kindness & Success).

Acknowledgement

Lax Kxeen Elementary School acknowledges the Ts’msyen (or Tsimshian) people on whose unceded, traditional territory our school resides on. We are grateful to be able to work, learn and play on this beautiful territory.

The artist’s name is Reegan Kelly.  She was a graduate of CHSS. Lax Kxeen did a collaborative project with Ms. Clifton’s Form Line Class last year. Students and staff voted on their favorite design to become the new logo for Lax Kxeen Elementary School. The image is of a grizzly bear.
